Provenance: armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754) in vol. 1 only: Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754]. Binding: eighteenth-century sprinkled, panelled sheep over boards on five raised bands plus two false ones, remains of gilt spine tooling, red-brown spine labels (gilt-lettered: Dionysii Halicarna Gr & Lat), double blind fillet with inner rectangular compartment and cornerpiece design with fillet and roll tool borders, mottling to compartment outer and stained inner panel on covers, gilt roll on board edges, red and brown sprinkled edges. Joints cracking.
