Provenance: eighteenth-century Jacobean armorial bookplate (Franks 32206), lettered: William Windham Esquire [i.e. William Windham II (1717-1761)]. Manuscript inscriptions on front pastedown: "Will Windham" [i.e. William Windham I (1647-1689)] and "A Windham" [i.e. Ashe Windham (1673-1749)]. Manuscript price on front pastedown: "pre- 9 [symbol]". Manuscript inscription on rear fly-leaf: "A Windham" [i.e. Ashe Windham (1673-1749)]. Manuscript former shelfmark in pencil on rear pastedown: "B5". Binding: seventeenth-century full mottled calf (rubbed); sewn onto four cords; double blind fillet border, with two additional quarter double blind fillets running parallel to spine-edge; single gilt fillet along board edges; gold-tooled spine with repeated spiral and other stamps filling the panels; gilt title on red morocco label on spine. Red sprinkled textblock edges.
