Provenance: manuscript inscription on vol. 1 front fly-leaf: "NB. The owner of this book was at some pains to get the plates of the first edition to joyn with the text or explication of the second edition" [written in the hand of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf; sewn onto six sewing supports; gilt foliate roll pattern along board edges; gold-tooled spines with floral stamps; gilt title on brown goatskin label and gilt vol./part number on spines. Red and green mottled bookblock edges.
