Orientation: Vertical Text Substrate: handmade laid paper Ink/Pigment: black printing ink Type: BOUND BOOK Binding Type: Inboard binding, recessed supports & false bands Date of Binding: 19.1 Binder's Name: British End Leaves: tipped single fold of drab grey-brown Cobb paper, the flyleaf made to a leaf of white wove paper followed by 2 further leaves of the same (watermarked LM 1806). The outer Cobb leaf is pasted to the board Structure: English Edges: plain cut, all edges gilt, polished Spine Lining: Near flat, square joints, linings not visible, but 5 false bands in standard spacing End Bands: worked L-R 1x1 in green thread (silk?) over a flat parchment core lined on the back with tanned leather. Bookmark: dark purly-blue silk ribbon glued to spine under the headband Boards: 4mm rope fibre board, small back cornering, slips 1, 3 and 5 of 5 laced in Covering: full brown tanned calf with very distinct hair follicles and a crushed grain (a more mature animal?) Tooling Spine: title gold-tooled direct in panel 2, place in panel 3 and date in panel 5; panels 1, 4 and 6 have a gold-tooled circular design in the centre and blind tooling around it; gold-tooled dotted roll across bands Tooling Sides: broad blind-tooled roll border between a gold-tooled single fillet outer border and an inner frame creating ‘Oxford’ corners; gold -tooled single fillet on board edges and turn-ins Furniture: None Enclosure: None Binding Notes:
