Provenance: manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript notes and bibliographic references in unidentified eighteenth-century hand on front fly-leaf: "Journal des scavans vol. 28. p. 683. Repub. des Lettres par Bernard vol. 4. p. 504 ...". Binding: seventeenth-century full mottled calf; sewn on six raised bands; gilt roll pattern along board edges; gold-tooled spine, the panels with gilt floral stamps and other tools, gilt roll along raised bands, and with repeated roll at foot featuring dolphin and crown and fleur-de-lis motifs. Red and brown sprinkled edges.
