Bibliographic description
2v. . 8vo.. [Vol. 1] only. Half-title wanting. Provenance: manuscript inscription (eighteenth-century (?), at head of title page, partly trimmed away and mostly illegible): M:[?] [ ]ngton [ ]y [?] . Also inscribed on title page: "B []". Although the book is dedicated to Elizabeth Davers, Countess of Bristol (1730-1800) by the author, who was chaplain to her husband, Frederick, 4th Earl of Bristol, Bishop of Derry (1730-1803), this copy probably did not come into the family until later. An early twentieth-century (?) sheet of printed rules from J. Smedley's Library, Sleaford, is affixed to front pastedown.. Binding: Twentieth-century quarter brown straight-grained morocco binding; marbled paper over boards; brown spine label with title: "Letters by Rev. M. Sherlock Chaplain to the Earl of Bristol".
