Provenance: manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "M. 20. planches" [i.e. catalogue code and plate count written by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: contemporary seventeenth-century Parisian presentation binding of gold-tooled red morocco, with the gilt arms of Louis XIV on both covers and a double and single gilt fillet outer border with small floral cornerpiece stamps. Sewn on six raised bands. Board edges have double gilt fillet. Turn-ins have a gilt roll pattern. Gold-tooled spine divided into seven panels: first and third-seventh panels with stamp, roll and fillet decoration, second panel with gilt title 'Medallion par Le Clere' lettered directly onto spine. Gilt edges. Placard pattern marbled endpapers.
