Provenance: manuscript inscriptions by Benjamin Browne, 1692-1748, on front pastedown and title page of each vol., including his signatures, and details of his purchase of the 9 vol. set in London (ms. in vols. 4 and 6 dated 1734). manuscript on vol. 6 front pastedown: "George Browne his book 1757" [i.e. George Browne, 1741-1804].. Binding: Each vol. in 18th century calf binding, but each with different blind and gilt tooling on boards and spines. Vols. 2-4 and 6-8 have "Browne" [i.e. Benjamin Browne, 1692-1748] scratched into the leather on the upper-boards.
