Provenance: library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Binding: contemporary Italian (Venice?) reddish brown goatskin over wooden boards; sewn on three recessed cords; blind fillet border, inlaid in the centre with a blind-embossed arabesque plaque of darker brown leather (the front one now missing), the edges picked out with blind fillet frame and the corners picked out with gilt gesso roundels; remains of four pairs of green silk ties (two on fore-edge, one at head and foot of boards); flat spine without raised bands, Greek style; gilt and gauffered edges with lattice pattern filled with roundels; vellum endpapers.
