Provenance: library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys]; with Mitchell's edition note "Editio prima" at head of leaf and his manuscript code at foot of leaf: "ι½" [i.e. iota½ = Greek number 10½]. Manuscript inscription in unknown hand on front fly-leaf: "Bridges page 50 no 950 sold for 2-16-0", i.e. a different copy was lot 950 in 'Bibliothecae Bridgesianae catalogus', the catalogue of the library of John Bridges which was sold by auction in 1726. Binding: eighteenth-century full mottled calf; sewn onto six sewing supports; six raised bands; gilt roll pattern along board edges; gold-tooled spine, with fillet panels, crown and floral tools, roll pattern at head and tail and along raised bands; brown leather spine label gilt lettered 'Perotti in Polyb Hist Rom 1473'.
