Orientation: Vertical Text Substrate: hand-made wove paper Ink/Pigment: black printing and engraving ink Type: BOUND BOOK Binding Type: Inboard binding, raised supports Date of Binding: 19.1 contemporary Binder's Name: British End Leaves: tipped single fold of blue and white stone marbled paper made to a sewn fold of white laid paper and followed by a single leaf of the same Structure: English [Oxford] Edges: plain cut, all edges gilt, polished Spine Lining: near flat, square joints, no visible linings End Bands: Missing, but worked in dark green, red and cream silk. From the height of the squares, they may have been double endbands Bookmark: green silk ribbon glued to spine under the headband Boards: 4mm rope fibre board, back-cornered, all slips laced in, perpendicularly Covering: full red-brown russia calf, with faint traces of the original dicing undeer the secondary dicing. Tooling Spine: titled direct in gold in panel 2; other panels have gold-tooled single fillet at head and tail, a fine gold-tooled dotted roll about 10mm inside them and a small gold-tooled oval ornament in the centre Tooling Sides: old-tooled single fillet border with a gold-tooled narrow roll inner frame with Oxford corners; gold-tooled roll on board edges and gold-tooled cabled roll on turn-ins Furniture: None Enclosure: None Binding Notes: Small armorial bookplate of ‘Charles Winn / Nostell Library‘ inside front board.
