Initial spaces left blank; decorations added rarely in red ink by readers. Several manuscript annotations in two sixteenth-century hands; corrections, excerpts from the text, personal additions, pointing-hands, “nota bene”, and underlining. One extensive comment in German on leaf *1 recto (beginning of sixteenth-century). Provenance: late fifteenth- early sixteenth-century owner from German-speaking countries, otherwise unknow. Library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Binding: Continental, sixteenth-century alum tawed pigskin; blind tooled; panel binding; double blind fillet border; double blind fillet inner panel; sewn on four supports; marks from two, now lost, brass catch-plates; clasps plates on back cover; straps lost; rebacked in brown calf; three gilded title labels, two identical labels: gilt-tooled letters (“IUL: FIRMICI & MANILII ASTRONOMICA”, “ARATI PHAENOMEN LAT & GR:CUM SCHOL: GRAECIS THEONI”); third title label with gilt floral stamp and gilt letters: “PROCLI SPHAERA GR: & LAT:”; yellow burnished textblock edges. Ink letter on the foredge, maybe an f/r?.
