Imperfect: wanting first and final blank leaves; leaf a2 is damaged and torn along top edge, has been cut down in size on the other two edges and mounted on a blank leaf; leaves M4-5 damaged (M5 with loss of some text), both repaired with blank paper. Illuminated initial (damaged) on leaf a2r: pink letter U on gold and red ground with dotted and rosette pattern within blue and green frame; other initials added in blue or red ink (the blue initials usually quite faded); paragraph marks added in red ink. Infrequent manuscript marginal notes in different late fifteenth or sixteenth-century hands, e.g. on leaves f1v, n2r, q1v-q3r. Provenance: library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "M. etsi pagg. quaedam post p. 151 non respondeant" [i.e. catalogue code and foliation note, written by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys]. Binding: eighteenth-century full marbled calf; sewn on five supports; blind double fillet and roll border; blind roll on board edges; brown leather title label on spine; red and brown mottled bookblock edges.
