[466] leaves ; 4to. Running number: 6854. Imperfect: wanting blank leaf a1 and final leaf dd10. Decoration: on a2r a large fifteen-line initial "F" painted in blue on a red ground with pen-and-ink vine and foliate decoration in white, and pen flourishes, subtly coloured in pale green and pink; large blue initial on a4v, other initials supplied in plain red and blue alternately throughout; paragraph marks and capital strokes in red throughout, some capital strokes in New Testament picked out in silver (oxidised). Provenance: manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Inscription in pencil (price?) at head of front fly-leaf scribbled over in black ink. Manuscript inscriptions at head of leaf a1r "Humphridus Howetet" and "Humfridus Hewetet", and on EE10v "Liber Humfridi Hewett". Inscription at head of a1r and at foot of dd9v recording the place and date of publication: "Venetijs 1487" (the 8 written horizontally). Marginal annotations in sixteenth-century[?] hand on A4v-A6r, z5v, [con]4v, A5r, D6r, M1r, M6r, N5r, X1r and AA1r. Manicules on p4r, q1r, x1r, E7r, E8r, K2v, X7r and CC8v. Pen scribbles on t1r. A few words of printed text erased on Q5v-Q6r. Entire block of text of chapter XII of 'Ad Corinthios i' on Z6r has been highlighted with a yellowy-brown wash of watered-down ink or paint. Binding: seventeenth-century blind-tooled mottled calf (pitted); sewn on five sewing supports; double blind fillet border and central panel of double blind fillets with blind cornerpiece stamps; blind roll pattern along board edges; double blind fillet panels and at head and tail on spine; red and brown sprinkled bookblock edges.
