Summary
One of the books from Henry VIII's library which was annotated by scholars looking for arguments to support the king in his divorce from Catherine of Aragon. Bought second-hand by Hannibal Gamon (c. 1582-c. 1561), probably as a student in Oxford.

Provenance: manuscript annotations on title page, including a reference to the index of prohbited books "Hoc opus interdictu[s] est in Indice libr[orum] prohibitoru[m] ...", signed at end: "Hannibal Gamon" [i.e. Hannibal Gamon (1582?-1651), Rector of St. Mawgan]. Binding: late fifteenth-century sheepkin, over wooden boards; sewn on 3 cords. Double blind fillet frame; central panel with repeated blind vine stem and floral stamps. Holes for pair of clasps (missing) on both boards. Rebacked and repaired in calf. Gilt title and place/date on spine. Manuscript fore-edge title.
