With receipt tipped in on free end paper from John Hodgson to W.C.Trevelyan for the sum of £4.4- dated 22 Jan 1828. With a list of subscribers, including 'Trevelyan W. C., Esq., Wallington' tipped on to dedication page. With a page of lined note paper laid in at p. 233 with '''FISILBY'' Fenwicks at Kirkhill'. Also stuck on same page a newspaper cutting of a tribute to Martha Swinburne, Capheaton, died Sep. 9, 1778. With a printed article 'To the Editors of the Newcastle Courant' detailing the 'Origin and Improvement of Turnpike Roads in Northumberland' dated 24th january 1833. Two newspaper cuttings stuck on back, one about 'Alteration of the Chevy Chase Coach' and the other about 'Acceleration of the Mails'. With a torn off piece of paper used as page mark with 'THORNTON' written on it. With 2 newspaper cuttings stuck on p. 321, one entitled 'The Rector of Netherwitton and his Easter Offerings' dated August 6 1873, and the other 'The Vicar of Netherwitton and his Easter Dues' dated October 1st 1873. With a hand written letter tipped in at p. 341 dated May 20 to Sir Walter, thanking him for his gift. Provenance: Twentieth-century pictorial armorial bookplate, a re-working of an earlier William Bell Scott pictorial Trevelyan bookplate (Franks 29799) of Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan (1797-1879), lettered: Charles & Mary Trevelyan [i.e. Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan (1870-1958), & Mary Katharine, (m.1904).] Arms: Trevelyan impaling Bell. Not in Franks.. Binding: Half leather; marbled boards and endpapers; title gilt lettered direct onto spine; gilt top.
