With a list of subscribers including Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan's name in Part II Vol. I. With a receipt from Hodgson dated 22 Jan 1828 for the sum of Đ4.4s.0d for two vols. With a letter to Sir Walter tipped in to the same volume. Part II Vol. II: three circulars from the publishers to subscribers tipped in and two receipts from Hodgson for moneys received from W.C. Trevelyan in Nov. 1832. With numerous newspaper cuttings inserted throughout all volumes and other items such as the judgment of the Attorney General v. Trevelyan, 1862, letters, postcards, further prospectuses, lists of subscribers for the work, etc. With bookmarks laid in and MS. notes. Part III, vol. III contains directions for placing the extra plates and for lettering the volumes.. Provenance: Twentieth-century pictorial armorial bookplate, a re-working of an earlier William Bell Scott pictorial Trevelyan bookplate (Franks 29799) of Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan (1797-1879), lettered: Charles & Mary Trevelyan [i.e. Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan (1870-1958), & Mary Katharine, (m.1904).] Arms: Trevelyan impaling Bell. Not in Franks.. Binding: Half leather; marbled boards and endpapers; title gilt lettered direct onto spine; gilt tops.
