Provenance: Signatures in ink and pencil and many annotations (incl. dates read) by Etheldred Anne Cust [eldest daughter of 1st baron Brownlow; 1771-1788], some dated in early 1783 from 'Mrs Moores School No. 1 Portman Square'. Note on pastedown: 'Etheldred Anne Cust her book Feb 11th 1783 / Teusday [sic] night a great deal of company tomorrow to see us dance my Pappa and Mamma come to town tomorrow I have been at school a week to Day went to Lady Bankes [...] Sunday and sha [sic] go to Bond St. [...] mand St. next sunday'. Initials EAC in MS on front board. Binding: Eighteenth-century sheep (worn), with double bind fillet borders and decorative roll at inner edge. No spine-label.
