Bound with Hieron's Workes, the second volume (1620). Title page and following 4 leaves damaged, with old repairs (but 2nd and 4th of these leaves are very imperfect). Title page of 'The Christians iournall' (signed A1) bound before volume title; A2 lacking. Single leaf with beginning of 'A relation of the manner of Mr. Hierons death', signed Yyyy1 (not from this work) bound before p.1. Bottom half of Iii6 (pp. 611-2) torn away. Very large ink-blot on p. 493; rust-marks at head of p. 514-5.Many MS annotations, mostly in hand of James Keating (b. 1653), perhaps a brother of Judge John Keating in DNB; a prisoner in Galway and Dublin in 1689-90. Strip of silk stuck to head of Mm2r, marking note:'I wrote out these two sermons in Galway in the year 1689 ... when a prisoner & under sentence of death'. Notes on various providential escapes from death (1710-15) on verso of p. 551 (Ddd1v). Transcript of Keating's will, dated 1711, on page before 443 (Ddd4v). Provenance: (1) ? Lord Mountjoy [George Mountjoy - sig. on verso of title page; John Mountjoy - pencil sig. on p. 609]; (2) James Keating (b. 1653); sig. on title page and elsewhere; (3) Andrew Gregory (sig. on p. 137, June 1817); (4) James Macartney of Abbey Lodge (b. 1776, donor to Lord Enniskillen 1870 'in his 94th year' - inscription on flyleaf); (5) 3rd earl of Enniskillen (bookplate on pastedown; round, armorial). Slip pasted on pastedown: 'It appears that this book was purchased at Lord Mountjoy's auction by Mr. Keating.' (19c.?). Binding: Half black calf, marbled paper sides (nineteenth-century).
