Binding: eighteenth-century English red morocco, covers with a border of snake-handled vases out of which flowers grow under a sun; at each corner within a crowned cipher HLJP (Henrietta Louisa Jeffreys, countess of Pomfret); spine gilt with same cipher in alternating panels; green lettering-piece. Edges gilt, fine-combed and wavy-combed marbled endpapers. Attributed to John Brindley, bookbinder to Queen Caroline, to whom the countess was Lady of the Bedchamber.
