Pencil notes on p.85 in the 3rd Earl’s hand [i.e. Philip Yorke, 3rd Earl of Hardwicke (1757-1834)]. Provenance: armorial bookplate (after 1754): Philip, Earl of Hardwicke. [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754. Also used in books acquired by his successors]. Binding: nineteenth-century sprinkled, polished over boards on five recessed cords, gilt spine tooling, tan spine labels, gilt rope tool around edges of covers, gilt tool on board edges, olive-green sprinkled edges.
