Provenance: Eighteenth-century armorial Chippendale bookplate lettered Fane William Sharpe Student of Ch: Ch: (Franks 26568) [Fane William Sharpe (fl. 1761)]. manuscript pressmark (?) added in ink. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: St. Albans Court, Nonington, Ken H. [i.e. Hodgson's] 10/3 '38. Binding: Eighteenth-century full calf over boards; gilt fillets; spine gilt; brown spine label with title 'Dr Pile & Supplement'; sewn on five raised bands.
