[i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Ellys], with Mitchell's collation note at foot of leaf. Manuscript inscription on front pastedown: "Henry : Brett Ejus Liber 1706" (i.e. Henry Brett, M.P. Bishop's Castle 1701-8, lieut.-colonel of a regiment of foot raised by Sir Charles Hotham, d. 1724 (cf. alumni oxonienses)). Nineteenth-century pencilled note repeated on front endleaf: "28:C:18". Eighteenth-century manuscript code on lower pastedown: "e5ᶜ/i5⁸". Binding: eighteenth-century sprinkled and plain calf over boards, blind tooled to a Cambridge-panel design; single gilt rule along board edges; five raised bands, gilt title on goatskin label; red sprinkled edges.
