Provenance: Nineteenth-century crest bookplate: William Jenning. (Not found in Franks). Late nineteenth-century bookplate: Charles Eamer Kempe, Old Place, Lindfield, Co. Sussex. (Franks 16950) [i.e. Charles Eamer Kemp or Kempe (1837-1907), artist and designer, owner of stained glass works]. Small stamp on flyleaf with motto "[?] colo salus". Loosely inserted: receipt made out to Kempe from book dealer Francis Edwards, May 24 1904, for Đ8-8, for this copy. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on pastedown in Norris's hand: "S. [Sotheby's] 8/3 55 Lot 507 Đ6-5", with a pencil note on plates and the missing printer's directions. Binding: Nineteenth-century full leather over boards; gilt and blind fillets; spine gilt; sewn on five raised bands.
