Orientation: Vertical Text Substrate: handmade laid paper Ink/Pigment: black printing and engraving ink. Iron gall ink on flyleaf. Type: BOUND BOOK Binding Type: Inboard binding, recessed supports & false bands Date of Binding: 19th- century Binder's Name: English End Leaves: Single fold of marbled paper, the flyleaf made to a sheet of white machine-made laid paper followed by a second single white leaf. Construction unclear. Structure: English Edges: Plain cut with plough marks, solid red colouring, polished Spine Lining: moderate round, square joints, tight back (?) and continuous paper linings End Bands: Worekd 2x2 L-R in black (?) and white silk over flat parchment cores, cut at the joints. 3 tiedowns Bookmark: None Boards: 4mm millboard with external bevelled back cornering Covering: Full brown tanned calf, varnished. Tooling Spine: gold-tooled corners and large centre ornament in each panel; direct gold-tooled title in panel 2 Tooling Sides: Gold-tooled triple fillet border with rose tool hiding corners; gold-tooled roll on board edges; blind-tooled roll on turn-ins Furniture: None Enclosure: Bookshoe Binding Notes:

[i.e. Sotheby's] 13/6 49. Lot 104 Đ7-10" [Lilford, Northamptonshire, seat of the Powys family, Barons of Lilford]. Binding: Eighteenth-century (?) full sprinkled calf over boards; gilt fillets; edges gilt-rolled; spine gilt; brown spine label with title "Fuller's Worthies"; sewn on five raised bands; both boards detached.
