Provenance: Queen Marie Leszcynska, or, at a later date, Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, dauphine 1747. Book-label of Baron Jérome Pichon. Binding: French early eighteenth-century mosaic binding, citron morocco with onlays of red, light and dark green; a geometric design with sections of circles occupies the centre of the covers with onlaid pomegranate shapes and stylised flowerheads around this. The gold tools include lozenges, stars and tassels but notably a knight on horseback and clasped hands. The spine has a panelled lettering-piece, mosaic roses and in the bottom panel, another design made by the use of compaases. Red, white and green headbands, edges gilt over marble, red, white, green and brown markers. Mosaic doublures with gold leaf endleaves facing, the latter lined across the second opening with red silk; lower doublure has similar tools to the rest of the binding, but also a crowned dolphin, a single-headed spreadeagle, and fleurs-de-lis.
