Provenance: manuscript inscriptions on front and rear pastedowns detailing births, deaths and marriages of the family of the naturalist Gilbert White (1720-1793). Written in three hands, the earliest that of Sir Sampson White (1606-1684), the next that of one of his children, the third that of Gilbert White (1650-1728).. Binding: Calf; blind ruled; blind rolled (Oldham TC.a(3)914) + either G.E. (I) or H.E.L. (I)); corner and central metal bosses, tooled; remains of clasps, metal with leather, bottom fastening; rebacked and inexpertly repaired, spine entirely replaced; sewn onto four bands.
