Manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript price[?] in pencil on front fly-leaf: "2-6". Binding: late seventeenth-century (1695) full blind-tooled purple-stained alum-tawed skin (sheepskin?); sewn onto three sewing supports; five raised bands; covers decorated with border of double blind fillets and inner panel made by blind roll pattern panel with blind cornerpiece stamps; gilt roll pattern along board edges; spine very faded, now an off-white colour; red and brown sprinkled textblock edges. Henry Aldrich had a number of presentation copies bound in a purple-stained alum-tawed skin and gave them to his friends as New Year gifts.
