Summary
First volume (Anthems) from a set of manuscript music, copied by Philip Hayes from Purcell's original scores. The volumes later belonged to the composer Samuel Arnold and collector Sir Mark Masterman Sykes of Sledmere, brother of Elizabeth Egerton of Tatton. Contents: It is a good thing - O praise God in his holiness - Awake, awake put on thy strength O arm of the Lord - O pray for the peace of Jerusalem: Dr Blow, solo - The Lord is my light - My heart is fixed - Praise the Lord o my soul. Six voices - Why do the heathen - Unto thee will I cry o Lord - I will give thanks - My heart is indicting: performed at King James the 2nds coronation; for two choirs of voices & instruments - O sing unto the Lord - Praise the Lord o Jerusalem - Praise the Lord o my soul
