Manuscript inscription on vol. 1 front fly-leaf: "M. 2. vol." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: eighteenth-century original publisher's brocade paper (Brokatpapier), gilt embossed and copper green patterned paper over pasteboards; sewn on four raised bands; edges untrimmed; as issued. Vol. 1 paper cover has gilt embossed background with copper green foliate and floral design all over; vol. 2 paper cover has gilt embossed background with densely packed copper green foliate design all over, incorporating figures in contemporary and Moorish dress engaged in hunting various animals (lions, leopards, boars, bears, unicorns), interspersed with hunting dogs and various birds. Pencil note on vol. 1 front pastedown: "Repaired and boxed at Cambridge, 1956". In twentieth-century storage box in brown cloth.
