Provenance: Inscription on pastedown, partly scratched away: "[illegible] Holman [?] 1731". Twentieth-century book label of Gawdy Hall Library, with its pressmark Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). The Raleigh work with which it is shelved has inscription in Norris's hand: Gawdy Hall, Suffolk. H [i.e. Hodgson's] 24/11 38. Lot 253. [i.e. Gawdy Hall, Harleston, Norfolk (?), associated with Holmes family]. Binding: Eighteenth-century full calf over boards; blind fillets; rebacked in calf; red morocco spine label with title "Raleigh's History Ross's Contin"; sewn on six raised bands.
