Orientation: VerticalText Substrate: handmade laid paper Ink/Pigment: red and black prining and black engraving inkType: BOUND BOOK Binding Type: Inboard bindingDate of Binding: contemporary and ca 1800 Binder's Name: English End Leaves: inserted tipped sigle fold stone marbled paper, the outer leaf pasted to the boards, the inner leaf made to the outer leaf of a tipped single fold of handmade laid paper Structure: EnglishEdges: uneven cut edges as if resewn, but marbled to same pattern as the endleaves after sewing, polished Spine Lining: moderate round, quadrant joints, no visible linings End Bands: worked L-R 1x1 in yellow and pink silk over a thick rolled paper core. Bookmark: NoneBoards:re-used boards with earlier leather cover (dark brown tanned calf) nstill in place. 5 slips are laced into these boards, angled down in the front board, up in the back Covering: russia calftanned red-brown genuine russia calf with original uneven dicing onlyTooling Spine: divided into 6 panels by gold-tooled 1-fillets, titled direct in panels 2 and 3Tooling Sides: gold-tooled 1-fillet border, gold-tooled disk roll on board edges. Furniture: NoneEnclosure: NoneBinding Notes: 19th century bookplate of the Earl of Morley inside left board. This is a curious binding, as the re-used boards and the thick russia calf have resulted in rounded adges to the boards. The same thing seems to have happened to vol 1 (1681), but vol 3, a supplement, (1753) has first-use boards.
