Sr J Brownlow' and pencil note (perhaps referring to the first statement): '2nd Sir John'. Initials and earlier notes appear to be in hand of 'Old' Sir John Brownlow (1594-1679), the second note perhaps the hand of 'Young' Sir John and the pencil note by the 1st Earl Brownlow. Bookplate: Belton House (earl's coronet & crests). Old Belton pressmark on pastedown: 55. Binding: Seventeenth-century sprinkled calf, double blind fillet bord.
