Identified in 1796 inventory (as 2 vols.): F 264, price 13s. Christie's, 21 June 2004, lot 654.. Provenance: Bookplate: John Myddelton Esqr. of Chirk Castle Denbighshire [i.e. John Myddelton (1685-1747)] (the plate of Robert Myddelton of Chirk Castle with inscription altered); Jacobean armorial, after 1733. Franks 21457. This has been pasted over an earlier plate, probably that of John's brother, Robert (1678-1733). manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "HF Laurum loquendum vt multi sapiendum vt paini", and manuscript initials "HFL" on title page.. Binding: Seventeenth-century plain vellum binding, with fore-edges folded over and remains of parchment ties. Gold-tooled spine, with gilt calf title label. Edges stained blue.
