Provenance: Sixteenth- or seventeenth-century inscription on title page, mostly illegible: Mat[ ] Lynh[ ] [?]. Eighteenth-century inscriptions on title page and flyleaf: 1. Thomas Empson Trin: Coll Cant: Alumni. 2. (twice) Thomas Empson 1720. 3. (in two different inks?) "Thomas Empson 1720 Bought ye 7 of Aprill: price 1=5." Other eighteenth-century inscriptions on title page: 1. Henry Empson 2. Hassall [?] 3. Librus hunc smit [?] Boa[ ] Hassall [?] ab Ellen. [?] Halson [?]. With other illegible inscriptions, some crossed through. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: East Sutton Park 27/6 '45 [East Sutton Park, Kent, seat of baronets of Filmer].. Binding: Seventeenth-century full calf over boards; blind fillets, roll-tools and cornerpieces to form a central panel; later brown leather spine label with title "Cooperi Thesaurus"; sewn on five raised bands.
