[i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript inscription in the hand of John Mitchell on verso of front fly-leaf: "Hoc, cum caeteris ad Bibliothecam Regiam pertinentibus voluminibus, me decoravit Rex Christianissimus. R. Ellys." [i.e. apparently presented to Ellys personally by Louis XV]. Binding: eighteenth-century full mottled calf; sewn on six raised bands; double and single gilt fillet border with small cinquefoil cornerpiece stamps; gilt centrepiece stamp of the royal arms of France; gilt roll pattern along board edges and turn-ins; gold-tooled spine, five fillet and roll panels filled with fleur-de-lys, crown, sun in splendour and royal monogram of Louis XV stamps, two panels with gilt title and vol. number on brown leather labels; red sprinkled textblock edges; placard-style marbled endpapers.
