Provenance: manuscript inscription on leaf *2r: "Bibliotheca Colbertina" [i.e. from the library of the great French bibliophile Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Marquis de Seignelay (1619-1683), Chief Minister to Louis XIV; written in the hand of his librarian, Étienne Baluze (1630-1718). Colbert’s library was dispersed at a sale in Paris, 24 May-21 October 1728, and at two sales in London (23 April 1729 and 17 November 1735)]. Binding: seventeenth-century mottled calf; blind double fillet border, with blind roll pattern along spine edge; gilt roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine, with gilt title label and date stamp. Red sprinkled edges.
