Vol. 6 includes a loose nineteenth-century cataloguing slip which notes that vol. 5 was missing then [this is the same hand as in 1842 catalogue, which doesn’t note vol. 5 as missing]. Vol. 3 is ruled in red throughout. Provenance: armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754) in vols. 1-4: Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754]. Binding: seventeenth-century sprinkled, panelled sheep, over boards on four raised, gilt double fillet and lozenge-shaped foliage tools on spine, blind double fillet with inner rectangular compartment and cornerpiece design on covers, blind roll on board edges, red and brown sprinkled edges.
