8 v., plates (some folded) : ill., ports., maps ; fol. Imperfect: wanting vol. 5 (i.e. Bronzes vol. 1). Some vol. 8 plates are misbound several pages before their due place. Shelved and uniformly bound with “Catalogo degli antichi monumenti”, 1755 ; vols. 6-8 are bound to match the rest of the set. Provenance: eighteenth-century pencil manuscript on half-title to “Catalogo degli antichi monumenti”, 1755: Given to the Honble Charles Yorke by the King [i.e. Charles Yorke (1722-1770), younger brother of the 2nd Earl of Hardwicke; Lord Chancellor, 1770]. Binding: Eighteenth-century polished, diced sheep over boards on seven raised cords; gilt spine tooling; olive-green and dark blue spine labels; gilt roll and floral corner tools on covers; gilt roll on board edges; remains of green painted edges; light green silk bookmark. Vols. 6-7 have blue painted edges and a light blue silk bookmark. Vol. 8 has brown sprinkled edges. Spine title: Antiquities of Herculaneum Tom II.[-VIII].
