This edition was issued without plates but two series have been added to this copy: first 31 plates which may have come from the set of 32 plates by J. Harrewyn for the Brussels 1694 edition; second, portrait of Molière by J. Punt dated 1740, and 32 plates also by Punt dated 1738-1740. Provenance: Bequest of James de Rothschild, 1957. Provenance: Firmin Didot (sale 1825, lot 810); manuscript note by J.-J. Debure of the Didot sale and catalogue entry "810 collationné. complet. le 4 Xbre 1825 J.-J. de Bure l'ainé and c.d.m.m 553" on front free endpaper of v.1. His sale 1853, lot 765. 1897 Waddesdon catalogue, p.55. Binding: French red morocco, about 1765. Covers have a gilt roll with a swag and sunburst face at the inner corners of the panel. The spine is lettered directly and has a right-facing bird tool. Two blue silk markers to each volume; red, white and blue headbands. Edges gilt over marble, endleaves of wave-combed marble paper. Ascribed to N.-D. Derome,on the evidence of the bird tool and the curl pallet at foot of spine.
