Bound uniformly and shelved with vol. 1, 3rd ed., 1757; vol. 3, 1st ed.,1764; vol. 4, 1st ed., 1771. “A dissertation on the credibility of the history of … Rome.” (XXXIII, [1] p.) and “The Capitoline marbles: …” (110p.) have been transposed in binding. Blank piece of cut paper between pp. 544-5. Provenance: Armorial bookplate: The Honble. Charles York [i.e. Charles Yorke (1722-1770, younger brother of the 2nd Earl of Hardwicke; Lord Chancellor, 1770]. The “e” of “Yorke” has been added onto the plate in manuscript. Binding: Eighteenth-century sprinkled calf over boards, double gilt fillet on spine and covers, light brown and blue spine labels, blind roll on board edges, red sprinkled edges.
