Early nineteenth-century pictorial armorial Chippendale bookplate lettered C. Eve, printed in brown. (Franks 10033) Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Loosely inserted: slip of manuscriptnotes by Norris on the bookplate, quoting an article from Country Life (Aug. 1903) which describes Eve's plate as one of the worst examples of Chippendale design 'run wild and in extremis.'.. Binding: Eighteenth-century full calf over boards; double gilt fillet; rebacked in calf; red morocco spine label with title: 'Mead on the plague'; sewn on five raised bands.
