Mortimer [i.e. large paper]. No Hardwickes or Yorkes. Provenance: Armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754) in vol. 1 only: Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754]. Binding: Eighteenth-century sprinkled sheep over boards on five raised cords plus two false raised bands; remains of gilt spine tooling; red-brown spine label; double gilt fillet with inner blind (possibly blackened silver-gilt?) compartment and cornerpiece design on covers; gilt roll on board edges; blue sprinkled edges; pink silk bookmark in each volume. Old water stain at foot of fore-edge throughout.
