Annotations on front flyleaf (17th-century hand, lightly crossed through): 'Prima figura est tum argumentum vel medius .' Inscription on end flyleaf in English and Latin (another 17th-century hand), mostly about colours of Cambridge hoods for different degrees; also Latin prayer and English epigram: 'Our bodys are like shooes which of we cast / Physick ye cobler is & death ye last'. MS note (17th-century) on front binding stub: 'july 17 / friday'. Provenance: Signature (faint) on flyleaf: 'J Hall' and in pencil on binding stub at end: 'John Hall' [i.e. John Hall of Magdalene College Cambridge; mid-17th century]. Bookplate: Belton House (earl's coronet & crests). Old Belton pressmark on pastedown: 18. Binding: Seventeenth-century calf binding; double blind fillet borders with miniature floret corner-pieces; off-centre vertical rule.
