[i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript inscription on recto of front fly-leaf: "Chaudon"[?] (possibly Chaudoij or Chaudois). Pencil shelfmark[?] on recto of front fly-leaf: "B41". Verso of front fly-leaf has had a blank leaf pasted over it, obscuring an earlier ownership inscription, a few words still just legible: "... dedit Aegidio de ...". Binding: contemporary sixteenth-century French gold-tooled mottled goatskin[?]; sewn onto four recessed sewing supports which are laced through three holes in the boards in an X-pattern in the tucked-under lacing method of French binders; smooth spine; single and double gilt fillet outer border; central panel filled with pattern of curved lines with arabesque and floral tools, and scroll end tool; single gilt fillet and hatched pattern along board edges; spine gold-tooled in one long panel filled with curved lines and arabesque tools, fillets and hatched pattern at head and tail, gilt title 'TEREN: COMOEDI:.' lettered directly onto spine in small panel below head; all edges gilt; vellum pastedowns, writing visible underneath. In brown buckram box.
