Lot 4424 in Hoym library sale catalogue 'Catalogus librorum bibliothecae illustrissimi viri Caroli Henrici comitis de Hoym ...' (Paris, 1738). Bought by Sir Richard Ellys for 4 livres according to his priced copy of the sale catalogue. Manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: eighteenth-century calf; gilt armorial centrepiece stamp of the arms of Karl Heinrich, Graf von Hoym (1694-1736) (Boyet and Du Seuil were Hoym’s binders); gilt roll pattern on board edges and turn-ins; gold-tooled spine, with gilt title on brown goatskin label. Red and brown sprinkled edges. Comb-marbled endpapers.
