Provenance: MS inscription on 2nd flyleaf (fairly formal): This booke his Mrs. anne Masson 1667 [all sic]. Similar note, partly in cipher, on opposite page; both = Anna Margaretta Mason (d. 1717), wife of Sir Richard Mason, née Long; mother of Dorothy lady Brownlow. Further MS note (child's hand) on page near other end of book: Dorothy Mason her Boocke and hand writing [= Dorothy lady Brownlow (1665?-1730), 1st wife of Sir William Brownlow, née Mason; mother of Viscount Tyrconnel and Anne lady Cust]. Possible old Belton pressmark on flyleaf: 5.. Binding: 17c. brown morocco. Fine panelled gilt tooling with centre-piece of flowers with initials AM on front and back boards. Spine gilt. Three silver clasps, one with buckle extant. Wrapped in archival tissue-paper.
