[104],17,[1]p.,plates . maps . 4to. Not indigenous. List of subscribers bound at end. Maps hand-coloured. Loosely inserted: two versions of text leaf for Sussex, taken from different editions (?) and differing from each other as well as from this ed. Also inserted: clippings from dealer's catalogues, unrelated to provenance. Provenance: Formerly owned by Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820). The lists of "the most remarkable seats" in each county are numbered by hand; on a tipped-in ms. list (16p.), these numbers are listed and annotated to give details of tenants or owners of each property. According to Norris's note, these notes are by "Miss Banks". [i.e. Sarah Sophia Banks (1744-1818), collector of coins and printed material, sister of Sir Joseph Banks]. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Loosely inserted: slip of Norris's ms. notes, including note of Banks provenance.. Binding: Eighteenth-century tree calf over boards; gilt roll-tools to form a border; red morocco spne label with title "Cary's English atlas"; upper board detached.
