Extensive MS annotations (eighteenth-century) on pastedowns and other pages, some heavily blotted out; some refer to text, others to irrelevancies, e.g. 'Oh ugly affected Betsy / celebrated for her Ignorance & Pride' and poem to 'Sally Filkes Woborn' signed Royston Dick alias Tom Shem. Provenance: MS inscription on pastedown (crossed through): 'For Mr William Lilly / Chapman / at Roiston / from the author' [perhaps a book-trade delivery note]. MS reference on verso of frontispiece to 'Mr S. Marsom'. Pencil signature on back pastedown: W Faulkner ... 1768. Binding: Panelled calf (eighteenth-century), fitting what is extant so post-dating loss of leaves. Some scribbles on boards.
