Manuscript inscription on vol. 1 front fly-leaf: : "M - 2 vols" [this looks similar to, but isn't in the same hand, as the catalogue codes written into Sir Richard Ellys's books by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), Ellys's librarian]. Binding: eighteenth-century Cambridge-style blind-panelled calf; sewn on three supports; five raised bands; gilt roll pattern along board edges; blind fillet decoration on spines; gilt title and vol. number on brown goatskin labels on spines. Red sprinkled textblock edges.
